Founder & Principal
John is the founder of Step One Mobility, with over 15 years of engineering and project management experience in construction, consulting and municipal government. John's experience provides him the skills to navigate complex urban transportation issues, from crafting actionable transportation policies, to mitigating off-site impacts from development, to building consensus between cities and land owners.

Since founding Step One Mobility in 2022, John has worked with both the public and private sector to understand the mobility needs created by new land use policies and development projects. His projects range from small parking studies to complex transportation assessments for multi-phase mixed-use projects. John’s expertise includes:

Alex Liaw P.Eng.
Transportation Engineer
Alex is a professional engineer with over a decade of experience in both the public and private sectors. He specializes in transportation planning, design, data analytics, mapping, micromobility, traffic operations, and public engagement.
Throughout his career, he has successfully led projects across the Lower Mainland and beyond, including designing and overseeing the construction of complete streets and cycling networks, developing standard specifications, and performing geospatial analysis. He also brings extensive expertise in micromobility, advising on shared e-scooter policy, regulations, operations, parking, and safety. A firm believer in people-first streets, Alex is dedicated to creating safe, inclusive, and thoughtfully designed environments that promote equity and enhance quality of life for all.
Gavin Hermanson
Transportation Planner
Gavin is a transportation planner with over five years of experience. His planning work is centered on the interface between land-use, development, and transportation, which includes significant experience reviewing development applications and transportation studies for development, reviewing transportation demand management plans, and developing transportation policies for plans and bylaws. His other transportation experience includes transportation policy and plan development, shared micromobility policy and program planning, and project management of walking and cycling infrastructure. Gavin has a bachelor's degree in Planning from the University of Waterloo, where he specialized in land development planning, and a master’s degree from Concordia University where he focused in transportation planning.”
